A Grammy award winning folk band, Mercury winning indie rock band and renowned singer-songwriter have been announced as the headliners to this year’s Latitude Festival.

Bon Iver, Elbow and Paul Weller were this evening unveiled as the headliners for the festival at Henham Park, near Southwold, as the organisers looked forward to “the best Latitude yet”.

The three acts will be responsible for bringing the music on the main stage to a close when the festival returns for its seventh instalment from July 12-15.

American folk band Bon Iver will perform on the Friday, with Elbow, who performed at the festival in 2008, closing Saturday.

Sunday will belong to Paul Weller who will conclude festival with a set based on his new album Sonik Kicks.

Other standout performers include an exclusive outdoor festival appearance from Chinese-born concert pianist Lang Lang, who has played sell-out performances around the world, and a performance of BBC Radio 4 show The Infinite Monkey Cage from scientist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince.

Lang Lang will be performing on the festival’s floating Waterfront Stage, while The Infinite Monkey Cage will be in the Comedy Arena, alongside Jack Dee, Rich Hall, Tim Minchin and Russell Kane.

Music fans can also look forward to seeing Wild Beasts, The Horrors and White Lies headlining the Word Arena, as well as Bat for Lashes and Laura Marling, while The National Theatre will provide theatre entertainment.

The Literary Arena hosts American writer Siri Hustvedt, while regulars Mark Lamarr and Adam Buxton will also return.

Festival founder Melvin Benn said: “This year’s line-up will once again see Latitude present a bill of sensational artists at the peak of their careers. Superstar pianist Lang Lang is one of the world’s biggest live and recording artists, and we’re delighted to welcome him to his first ever outdoor festival.

“Bon Iver, Elbow and Paul Weller are all headliners with outstanding pedigrees, which we’re thrilled to welcome. And with artists and companies of the calibre of Jack Dee, The Infinite Monkey Cage, The National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe and Tim Minchin all appearing we’re confident that 2012 will be the best Latitude yet.”

Today the festival’s official website has had to operate on a restricted basis as music and arts fans visited to see who would be unveiled as tickets went on sale at 7.15pm.

The festival, which strives to be a multi-arts event, brings together comedy, film, dance, theatre, literature, poetry, cabaret and classical music.

Last year it was headlined by The National, Paolo Nutini and Suede.

  • Indeed, who are Bon Ivor? Is it a Bon Jovi tribute act? Elbow are currently a favourite of mine and are frequently on the hi-fi.
