Known for her films Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice she was in town for the Festival of Thetford and Punjab.

After the game the University of East Anglia graduate said: “It’s so exciting. It was so emotional. It’s the mix of nationalism, the hope and the pride.

“Forget Bend it Like Beckham it’s Kick it Like Kane now. It’s the sequel, finally!”

Hundreds of fans flocked to the restaurant, which was hosting the game in conjunction with On The Green Thetford, where there was a real good natured and family atmosphere.

Young children, teenagers and adults all came together to will England to victory.

Twins Maysey and Daysy Parish, two-and-a-half, wore their England shirts with pride, with red and white ribbons in their hair and the St George’s flag painted on their faces.
