Archant

Thetford sealed promotion to Division 4NE with a comprehensive 6-3 win over neighbours Bury IV at the Breckland Sports Centre.

The first half was evenly-matched, with Thetford scoring after 10 minutes. Joe Clarke made an incisive run down the right before crossing to Andrew Smith in the D who converted skilfully on his reverse.

Bury struck back quickly with goals from Richard Prentice and Peter Watson. But Thetford’s young players were on song and with slick passing in midfield William Rolfe and James Burt provided solid support for Reece Laffar who was deadly in the D. His first of five goals came as he rounded the Bury defenders and tapped in.

Simon Davies managed a goal for Bury but it was against the run of play and it was that man Laffar again who scored to bring his season’s haul to 50.

This was a confident display by Thetford who face the division leaders at Ipswich next week.
