The Fun Cup Championship reaches the halfway point at Snetterton this Saturday with a six-hour endurance race around the 300 layout.

The series for Audi-powered VW Beetle-bodied cars always provides an exciting finish at the Norfolk venue making for compelling viewing.

The Team Trooper Iron Maiden squad currently lead the standings with drivers Paul Wighton, Antonio Armelin, Harry Mailer and Jake Rattenbury, who started the year off with a narrow victory at Silverstone. Second place then followed at Oulton Park, with former BTCC race winner Anthony Reid joining the squad, while they were narrowly beaten into third at Brands Hatch.

Reigning champions JPR-UVio trail the leaders by 12 points, having finished eighth in the opening event, but the Graham Roberts/Farquini Deott squad beat their rivals at round two, claiming victory, and defeated them again at Brands Hatch.

Having won last year’s corresponding event at Snetterton the Roberts/Deott pairing will take some beating.

The only other winning team is the Marcus Clutton/Peter Belshaw pairing who triumphed at Brands but, having missed the opening two races, will be focusing on adding to their victory tally.

The Chris Hart-led Track Torque 2 Rent Dominos team, with Henry Dawes as co-driver, are third in the standings and will be keen to defeat the top two teams – they have the pedigree.

Another team to watch out for are the Chris Webster MAK Racing squad, who have recruited the vastly-experienced Stuart Hall to lead the team with Michele Haywood.

Two races for the Caterham Academy complete the day’s action. This series is for novice racers who compete in either the Green or White groups.

From the Academy it is possible to graduate through the Caterham series ranks and is an excellent introduction into motorsport at an affordable level.

Currently Daniel French leads Toby Clowes by four points in the Green Group while Andy Morgan heads Tom Allen by 12 in the White Group with the first race getting under way at 10.55am.

BRANDON LADS U9 knew they had a difficult game against the excellent Morley team but were superb. From the start Brandon were looking sharp and immediately created chances with Teddy Webber shooting just over early on and a superb save from the excellent Morley keeper to deny Daniel Bean with a tip over. Morley looked dangerous on the break but Lewis O’Malley, Jack Slater and the superb Lucas Kent in goal have only conceded a handful of goals all season. In the second quarter Brandon piled on the pressure and dominated the majority of the play, Jack Slater was unlucky not to score with a pile driver from 30 yards and Tommy Younge hit the side netting. Brandon did open up the Morley defence with a superb passing move from the back that saw Lewis O’Malley pass to Jack Slater, then to Hayden Edgecombe who rolled it across the area for Tommy Younge to tap in for 1-0. In the first session of the second half things were evenly balanced but Brandon couldn’t seem to put the ball in the net. Jordan Paddy had an excellent game in defence and midfield and Daniel Bean looked sharp up front and was unlucky not to score. Teddy Webber worked really hard and Lewis O’Malley made some excellent tackles and passes all game. As the game progressed Brandon continued to press and a piece of brilliance saw Tommy Younge (MoM) lob the Morley keeper (MoM) from 35 yards to secure an excellent victory against strong opposition. Final score: Brandon Lads 2, Morley 0.
