The future looks bright for a long-established Thetford business after local weatherman Jim Bacon opened its new entrance area at the weekend.

The BBC Look East weatherman and forecaster for University of East Anglia-based Weatherquest said he was in “seventh heaven” when he visited the Thetford Garden Centre on Saturday.

Mr Bacon opened the new entrance at the centre in Kilverstone, which marks the 30th anniversary of the family-run business. Music was provided by members of the Thetford Music Project at the opening of the modern new entrance and new-look customer service and tills area.

Mr Bacon, who was raised in nearby Feltwell, said it was an “honour” to perform the official opening and performed the ribbon cutting duties with a pair of shears.

“I am horrified that there is this fantastic garden centre and I have not cottoned on to it until now. It is a fantastic location and I am sure it will be a great success,” he said.

Lucy Nixon, director of Thetford Garden Centre, said the firm would be celebrating its 30th anniversary with a big party next month.

“The new entrance is more modern and impressive and more welcoming,” she said.
