A tattoo charity event held in memory of a young man who died from cancer will aim to raise money for two organisations which meant a lot to him.

Jason Rayment, from Thetford, was just 20 when he lost his battle with cancer in February this year.

A fan of tattoos, Mr Rayment visited Illusion Ink Tattoo, in Thetford, where he became friends with owner John Gwynne.

Mr Gwynne said he was devastated when he heard Jason had lost his two-year fight against cancer and decided to organise an event in his memory.

On Sunday, September 23, people will be able to pick from a sheet of tattoo designs created by Mr Gwynne of things that Jason liked.

For a donation of at least £20, anyone over the age of 18 can get a tattoo and all proceeds will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Breckland Cats Protection league.

“I met Jason a little while ago when he came in with one of his friends that was having a tattoo,” said the 36-year-old. “We got on really well.

“After he passed I did some tattoos for his family in remembrance for him and I thought I should do the event for the charities.”

Jason’s mother and brother, Julie and Michael, will be getting tattoos at the charity event, which will be held at the studio on Castle Street.

Mrs Rayment said: “We all love tattoos in this house. The last one Jason had was two weeks before he passed on. He was proud of his tattoos.

“It is lovely because there are a lot of people who did think the world of Jason and it makes it so much better for us knowing he was loved. I am very grateful to John.”

She added: “The idea of a tattoo event is wonderful because he liked them so much though he would be embarrassed a little about what is planned he would think the money going to charities is wonderful.”

Mrs Rayment said the Teenage Cancer Trust, at Addenbrooke’s Hospital’s Ward C4, helped Jason during his illness. The family also foster cats from the Cats Protection League.

nMrs Rayment added that the event, which will have refreshments and a raffle, will help Jason’s name live on.

The event will be held at the studio on Castle Street between 11am and 4pm.
