Riddlesworth Hall School took a trip down memory lane to mark the milestone, playing host to more than 300 former pupils and staff who travelled from as far as Germany, Uganda and Australia.

They were treated to canapés and lunch, followed by speeches and memorabilia from 1946 to the present day.

At the event Lingtoa Kong, the new owner of Riddlesworth and descendent of Chinese philosopher Confucius, unveiled plans to expand the school and to increase teaching to GCSE level.

An extensive program of renovation and modernisation is underway, with a new IT suite already in place and the rebuilding of an enlarged swimming pool in the pipeline.

A celebratory cake was cut by headmaster Paul Cochrane, former headmistress Patricia Wood and former headmaster Colin Campbell.

Mr Cochrane said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be leading Riddlesworth Hall.

“It is a very exciting time for the school and we look forward to welcoming new children to continue the outstanding ethos displayed by the returning pupils last weekend.”

The day was rounded off in style with a fireworks display.
