More sweet than Spice Girls, pop-punk band Pink Lemonade recorded their first release with producer Matthew Coulson.

Sisters Maddie and Frankie Soan, from Thetford, met Rhiannon Harris, from Attleborough, at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

The three students quickly realised their shared passion for performing and started songwriting and rehearsing together in February of this year.

Now Pink Lemonade have released their first single Space Girl and are set to drop another in the coming months.

Drummer Frankie Soan, 19, said: “It felt really exciting to release our first single after only being a band for a few months. We had so much fun recording Space Girl and can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

Space Girl was written on short notice as a filler song at a gig, but has proved to be the band’s biggest hit so far.

Miss Harris, 20-year-old guitarist said: “Everyone loved it. People were saying they couldn’t get the song out of their head.

“Our fan base thought so much of it we ended up playing it last at our gigs and everybody looked forward to hearing it.

“It felt exciting and empowering.”

Space Girl, an upbeat, guitar heavy tune, is available to purchase on iTunes.

Bassist and lead singer Maddie Soan, 21, said: “After getting such a good response from playing Space Girl live, we were really eager to record the track and see how that went.

“It feels super cool to say we have a song on iTunes, especially after only being a band for eight months.”

Pink Lemonade were voted Audience Choice Award winners at The NMG Awards 2018, receiving 10.2pc of the audience vote. They also were in the top five for Best Alternative Artist and won a chance to perform at the Cambridge Junction on March 15 for being a breakthrough artist this year.

The sisters are currently taking part in a study abroad program in New Jersey in America, and so the band are planning to return to the live music scene from January 2019 onwards.

Pink Lemonade will be playing at The Crunch, a recording studio near Coltishall, on March 1.
