Weeting Primary School take part in the national Sing and Sign event.

Pupils simultaneously sang and signed their way through a special song designed to raise money for charity as part of a national event.

Children from Weeting Primary School took part in the Sign2Sing record attempt which involved youngsters from across the country.

Schools involved were tasked with raising money for the national deaf charity SignHealth, as well as signing and singing in a co-ordinated attempt at 2.45pm precisely on February 8.

Head Anita Hennington said the pupils had been accompanied by parents and governors.

She added: “We’ve been practising signing in our normal singing assembly and as a result I think they’ve learnt quite a lot of sign language.

“They’ve learnt co-ordination and signing and sound which is what the young people who won’t have these advantages can’t benefit from and it raises awareness of disadvantaged children. It’s very important for young people to learn.

“It was fantastic and you could see they were all having a really great time.”

Last year 95,000 pupils took part in the event and organisers hoped to break the record this year with more than 800 schools participating.
