Almost everyone will cite their wedding as a day to remember but for one couple the event included a particularly unusual surprise.

For Michael Freeman, 47, travelled to his service in style after the best man arranged for their work lorry to be used as an unexpected mode of wedding transport.

The Mulityork truck was decorated with ribbons and, despite a speedy dash back to Thetford for the forgotten wedding rings, all parties made it to St Ethelbert’s Church in East Wretham on time.

Mr Freeman, a lorry driver from Sturston Close in Thetford, who married bride Samantha Webdale, 36, an early years practitioner, said: “The best man, who is also my brother-in-law, said he had something to sort out and we got to my company and I thought it was a bit strange.

“Unbeknown to me he had arranged a lorry and it was all ribboned up. He drove and I sat in the passenger seat and everyone in Thetford stopped and waved as we went past. I was gobsmacked.”

The couple, whose reception was held at Banham Village Hall, met three years ago and got engaged on Valentine’s Day last year. They spent their honeymoon in Crete.

“It was a fantastic day,” Mr Freeman added. “Even thinking about it now brings a tear to my eye - it couldn’t have gone better.”
