A Norfolk farmer found dead near his home was described as a man with a “love for life”.

The body of Stephen Brown, 52, of Harling Farm, Eccles Road, East Harling, was discovered on February 15.

In a statement released on behalf of his family he was said to be a “genuine, honest, sensitive, warm-hearted and caring man” who enjoyed an active life.

Mr Brown, a former pupil at East Harling Primary and Eccles Hall schools and a student at Easton Agricultural College, was named British Jet Ski Champion in 1992 and later won an international slalom competition in Greece in 1999.

He had also enjoyed track car racing at Snetterton Race Circuit and was a crew member on a yacht.

Mr Brown, son of Jean and Michael and brother of Sally, who was married with two daughters, was said to be a “thrill seeker” who “touched the lives of many.”

The statement went on: “Throughout his education, Stephen showed an enthusiasm for sports.

“Illustrating his talents as a true all rounder, Stephen excelled in everything he did and demonstrated from an early age his passion for both the taking part, but equally achieving his goals and the desired end result. Winning was important - coming second meant you were the first loser.”

Mr Brown became the fourth generation to run Harling Farm and stepped up to support his father at the age of 28, on the death of his mother.

During his time at the farm he enjoyed game shooting and ran shoots attended by many of the farming community.

“Stephen’s love for life was infectious,” the statement said.

“He was well-loved and respected both in the farming industry, local community and amongst his friends and family who will miss him dearly.

“Our love is with him always.”

A private funeral service for family and close friends will be held on March 2 at West Suffolk Crematorium at 11.15am followed by a memorial service at St Peter and St Paul Church in East Harling at 2pm.
