Up to 10 weeks of disruption on A11 due to overnight closures

Motorists face up to 10 weeks of disruption as overnight roadworks begin on the A11.

Highways England has confirmed the trunk road will be closed at four different points in the region while the work is completed.

Ten weeks of lane closures will be in place both northbound and southbound between Norwich and Newmarket as overhanging vegetation along the A11 verges are cleared.

Work starts this week and lane closures will be in place from 8pm to 6am.

Highways England is also carry out engineering work on other parts of the A11 during this period.

From Tuesday September 26 work begins to repair the northbound services slip road and resurface the northbound carriageway at Besthorpe.

The slip road will be closed between 9pm and 5am until Monday November 6 with the A11 northbound at Besthorpe closed during the same period from 8pm until 6am.

Diversions for motorists are scheduled to be in place.

Overnight work is also taking place on the southbound carriageway between the Barton Mills Fiveways roundabout and Red Lodge.

Full road closures will be in place from 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday and work is due to be completed by the end of the month.

The diversion route will direct traffic along the A11 northbound towards Barton Mills, the A1101 towards Fordham All Saints, followed by the A14.

A 50mph speed restriction will also been in place between Red Lodge and Newmarket overnight as work begins on replacing barriers.

And the A11 southbound will be closed at the A14 junction for one night on Wednesday September 27 between 8pm and 6am.

A diversion will be in place from at the A14 junction 37 via the A142 and A1304 to re-join the A11 at Six Mile Bottom.

Away from the A11, work is also being carried out on the A47.

The road will be closed for three nights at Trowse with work finishing on Wednesday September 27.

Highways England is also clearing overhanging vegetation along the A47 verges between Swaffham and Acle.

Single lane closures or mobile lane closures will be in place as required from 8pm and 6am until the end of the working week.
