Friends of a little boy who died of a brain tumour will come together this weekend in his memory.

Aiden Vergori was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) a year ago but sadly died last week.

The eight year old had attended Drake Infant School, on Fairfields, Thetford, until he became too ill, and made many close friends during his time in the town.

Those youngsters and their families will now attend a get-together at a park next to the school on Sunday where they will release helium balloons to mark Aiden’s life.

One of the organisers, Julia Lowe, 36, from Thistle Close, Thetford, whose son, Dylan Coddington, eight, was friends with Aiden, said: “I think it’s something for the children because it’s really affected them a lot - they were all really close and they were all really upset.

“It’s just so horrid that an eight-year-old has gone through this and I think it’s hard for them to understand - I don’t think children see the world like that.

“We’ll also take a picnic and just spend some time together and raise some awareness.”

Aiden first became ill with headaches and weakness in his left side in July last year and was quickly diagnosed with DIPG.

He underwent six-weeks of daily radiotherapy at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, during which time he had difficulties with his eyesight and hearing, lost the use of his left arm and was unable to walk.

Although the tumour initially shrunk, shortly after his treatment, in November last year, the family, parents Reese and Tim Vergori, and children, Aiden, Christian, Tia and Noah, moved from their Mallow Road home in Thetford to their home town of Spanaway, in Washington, America, for work reasons, where Aiden died on June 27.
