Agnieszka Kusmierz, from Thetford, appeared on remand for a hearing at South East Magistrates’ Court, in Ipswich, on Monday.

She was charged with attempted murder following a stabbing in Thetford on January 31.

Kusmierz appeared on video link from Bury St Edmunds police investigation centre.

The Polish national spoke through an interpreter to confirm her name, address and date of birth.

The 33-year-old, of Kimms Belt, was read the charge of attempted murder.

Police were called to a residential property in Kimms Belt, Thetford, following reports of a stabbing at the address, at about 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 31.

Officers discovered a man in his 30s, who had received two stab – one to the neck, and a second to the chest.

Kusmierz was arrested at the scene and interviewed the following day.

She was interviewed for a second time on February 10 and was remanded in custody ahead of her first court appearance this week.

The alleged victim is understood to be a Latvian national, who moved to this country about 10 years ago.

The man, also understood to be Kusmierz’ lodger, is currently in a stable condition following surgery at Papworth Hospital, in Cambridgeshire.

Prosecutor Wayne Ablitt told the court the alleged offence was indictable only, and could not be dealt with by magistrates, but must be committed to the higher court in due course.

No plea was entered by the defendant, represented by Norwich-based solicitor Malcolm Plummer.

A spokesman for Norfolk police said: “Officers were called to a residential property in Kimms Belt at approximately 7.30pm on Wednesday, January 31 and discovered a man in his 30s who had received stab wounds.

“The victim is currently in a stable condition at Papworth Hospital.”

Magistrates said the alleged offence was so serious it must be committed to the crown court. They remanded Kusmierz in custody to appear at Norwich Crown Court at 10am on March 12.
