Brandon lose to in-form Yachtsmen

10 March 2010

BRANDON Town continued their inconsistent season as they went down to a fifth home defeat this season when Wroxham Reserves visited Church Road for an important clash.

Brandon have a tough test on Saturday when they host third-place Blofield.

Wroxham Reserves took the lead inside 10 minutes when Walsh seized on some uncertainty in defence to make something out of nothing.

Town responded well as they carved out plenty of opportunities to level matters but they found Phil Smith in the Wroxham goal in fine form when they managed to get their shots on target.

Waites, Proctor and Poile all saw their efforts well saved by Smith, while at the other end King and Walsh looked lively and capable of adding to the visitors' tally on the break.

Towards the end of the half a Wroxham free-kick saw the woodwork struck twice as the Town goal lived a charmed existence.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Town have plenty of chances and Wroxham looking dangerous on the break.

Smith was taking plenty of time over his kicks, but was allowed to escape any punishment until there were 10 minutes left. He received two yellow cards as Town were awarded a free-kick in the box for time-wasting and had to watch as Town could not breach the opposition goal.

By then he had earned Wroxham the points as Town failed to produce a clear-cut chance against 10 men.

Brandon played some good football but poor finishing and an enigmatic goalkeeping performance proved their undoing.

Meanwhile, Brandon Reserves drew 4-4 at Mundford Reserves, the goals coming from a Craig Winstone brace, Josh Vaccaro and Adam Ward.
