Education course comes to Thetford
10 March 2010
A COURSE that helps people access higher education has been so popular that it is being extended to Thetford, Cromer and Great Yarmouth.
Norfolk County Council Adult Education Service's access to HE diploma in creative writing, English literature and journalism has been running at Wensum Lodge on King Street in Norwich since October 2009.
Part-time versions of the course will now run in Thetford.
Students can enrol on the course at the start of each term and can complete it over one year full-time or two years part-time. There is also a special measure called 'roll-on/roll-off' which allows students to take time out from the course if needed.
Access to HE courses are nationally recognised qualifications and are equivalent to three A-levels. They are aimed at people over 18 who want to progress to study for a degree but do not have any or enough formal qualifications.
To study on an access programme all that is required is a reasonable standard of English and commitment to study. The course will be offered in Thetford, Cromer and Great Yarmouth from April. It will continue to be offered full- and part-time in Norwich.
Applications must be received by Saturday, April 10 to be considered for the next course start dates on April 22, or by Sunday, August 1 for September intakes.
Some applicants may also be eligible for help with the course fees. For more information visit www.norfolk.gov.uk/adulteducation or contact Andrew McDonnell on 01603 306523 or andrew.mcdonnell@norfolk.gov.uk
