Thetford's hockey bonanza
10 March 2010
Magpies IV 1, Thetford Ladies 1
HOCKEY was the winner this weekend for Thetford Ladies.
Incredible team work, some strong defending with cleaner passing and greater possession meant for far more exciting hockey than previous weeks for this half of the season.
On Saturday, the midfield worked hard to make some space and put pressure on defence, with some great running from Charlie Harwood, Sarah Nichol and Leanne Smith.
Kathy Hammond and Dawn Heavey's work rate was superb - moving at pace off the ball to help out team members.
A converted short corner from Heavey put Thetford in the lead at half-time. Magpies pulled it right back in the second half.
Rudling Wakelam PoM: Dawn Heavey.
Thetford Ladies 1, Norwich City 2
Nine Thetford players went back on pitch at home on Sunday to put in a fine display of true determination.
Chris Church, Sophie Kelly, Nicola Scarrow and December Burris were quick and canny at the back fending off Norwich City's efforts.
With two free players, they did eventually score - only for Heavey to hit back with a short corner to equalise.
Thetford held them until a free player finally broke the deadlock.
The home side kept on biting back and were in the attacking half often, as Heavey, Hammond, Harwood and Nichol never gave up trying to get the ball close to the D.
Rudling Wakelam PoM: Chris Church.
